This year for the first time, we are organising a Student Showcase, as part of the conference. We are inviting students and recent graduates of ergonomics, human factors and allied disciplines such as design, engineering and psychology to exhibit their project work. Delegates will be able to see this work and talk to the students.

The Showcase will take place on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the conference and feature different students and their work on each of the two days.

Why take part in the Showcase?

There are many reasons to take part in the Showcase. You'll be able to:

  • Attend the only ergonomics and human factors conference in the UK
  • Network with lecturers and consultants from a wide variety of industries - maybe even your future employer!
  • Meet other like-minded students and graduates
  • Stand out from the crowd and promote yourself and your work
  • Take part in a special competition to win a cash prize for the best work - as judged by our delegates on the day
  • Support the Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors!

What are we looking for?

We are looking for undergraduates and postgraduates who have completed (or almost completed) a project, and can demonstrate that ergonomics and human factors principles have been applied. It might be a product, a piece of software, or improvements to a system or environment. Ideally, you will have something to show - a prototype, or perhaps a computer simulation.

Does it cost anything?

Firstly, you need to know that there is an entry fee of £50. But wait - this is not just for your entry into the Showcase, you will also be able to attend all conference sessions during the day as long as you are present with your entry at breaktimes to discuss your work. Refreshments and lunch are also included. Don't forget that this is a great opportunity to meet some very influential people and to get noticed - vitally important to your future career.

You should also take note that there will be a cash prize awarded each day of £50 for the best work, as voted for by delegates who attend that day. So there's another reason to make a good impression!

How do I apply?

If you wish to apply for a place, you will need to download and complete the application form below electronically. You can enter your work for either the Tuesday or the Wednesday. Please send your application to Kia Horrocks in the Institute office, email k.horrocks@ergonomics.org.uk. You should send an image or some other illustration of your work with your application.

The deadline for applications is 1st February but please note that places are limited.

We will be selecting work that will create a varied and interesting Showcase each day so get your entry in early in case we need to get back to you for further information. You will be notified at the latest by the 5th February, at which time you will need to book your place at the conference and pay the £50 fee.

If you need accommodation, this can be arranged by the Institute at a cost of £50 per night. If you have any questions about this or other any questions about the Showcase or the suitability of your work, please contact Kia on 01509 234904.
